ABOUT ESPACE 1606

The Espace 1606 offers visitors a glimpse into life in 17th century Fribourg thanks to an impressive 52m2 scale model of the city. Drawing on a 1606 engraving, it faithfully reproduces the topography and architecture of one of Europe's most beautiful medieval towns.
 

HISTORY OF THE ASSOCIATION
 

The aim of the Werkhof-Frima association is to showcase and enhance the value of the scale model of Fribourg. Based on a 1606 engraved map by Martin Martini, the model was delicately crafted as part of jobseekers' upskilling programme.
 
On 20 September, a fire ravaged the Werkhof, which had been part of the landscape of Fribourg's Basse-Ville since the 16th century. Years later, the site was reclaimed and the structure was restored to provide a home for this ambitious project and serve as a multifunctional community, cultural and social space.
